Partner Programs

We offer core parenting courses which parents can register for. In addition, we collaborate with community partners and facilitate parenting courses and workshops for them. We also provide programs for the general public who wish to host a parenting course or workshop in their home or office.

Parent Educator Training

The Family Education Centre’s Parent Educators are trained and supported on an ongoing basis. New Parent Educators are trained on an as-needed basis. This training provides our Parent Educators with a strong background in Alderian Psychology, adult education and group leadership skills.

Changing Family Patterns (Shelters)

The ‘Family Matters’ parenting program began as a volunteer program in 1992 until funded through the United Way in 1994 and the Royal Bank in 1999. This program is offered at three shelters for abused women in Peel. The shelters are

Interim Place I & II
the Family Life Resource Centre.

The ‘Discovering Me’ program is also offered at the Family Life Resource Centre.

  

Vanier Centre for Women

This program provides 6 seven-week parent education programs for women incarcerated in the Vanier Centre for Women.

  

Family Futures

In partnership with Peel Children’s Aid Society and two Ontario Early Years Centres, this program provides free parenting courses and child development programs to parents referred by Peel CAS in both Mississauga and Brampton.

  

Community Staff Training - Promoting Positive Parenting

As part of FEC’s holistic view of support, FEC provides staff training to community organizations on how to support and promote positive parenting to their clientele.

 

Events

In keeping with our philosophy of ensuring family involvement, parent-only time and the appreciation of our volunteers, the Family Education Centre supports an annual Volunteer Appreciation Night.
